BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Teaching young people how to identify the warnings signs of a dangerous relationship. That’s what a local foundation, created in memory of Cockeysville native Yeardley Love, is doing through a film. He’s used to being in the limelight like this, having been the voice at 10 years old of Tyrone the Moose on Nickelodeon’s "Backyardigans." Mom kept him grounded, though, and challenged him to use his earnings from the show to help his community. At 13 he made his first film — "Say it Loud" — a documentary stressing the importance of education for African-American males. The project was a finalist in a competition sponsored by "Do Something," a national organization encouraging youth to improve their community.Although Jordan didn’t win, the exposure led to his picture and story being seen on the back of 40 million bags of Doritos.Until Love’s publicized murder by her ex-boyfriend, dating violence was something women thought would never happen to them. Now, her family and the foundation are spotlighting the issue.
The One Love Foundation developed an app, and it’s free.Love’s family told WJZ in February, the 20 question test shows if someone is in a dangerous relationship. Take this test and see if things aren’t adding up properly.” And with the film set to reach even more young adults, organizers say it will be another tool to top this dangerous trend from taking another innocent life.
